The following table gives a summary of the techniques and patterns required at each grade.
In addition to being able to carry out the techniques and patterns, you will be expected to know and be able to explain the theory associated with them. For example, for stances you should know the measurements for length and width; weight distribution; angles of the feet, etc. For techniques you should know the correct attacking or blocking tools used with each one, and the targets to be attacked or sections to be defended, as well as some more specific. For patterns you should know the number of moves and the meaning behind the pattern name. You should also know the meaning of the belt you are at, and for the next level up.
It is preferable to know the Korean terms for techniques as well as the English names, however this is more important the higher you progress, and not knowing them will not cause you to fail a grading (although your instructors might be very disappointed!)
