PROMOTION TESTING
(Simsa)
Some Important Things to Bear in Mind
- At each level, you will be expected to know everything listed for your grade, plus anything covered for previous grades. This is particularly important at higher grades, when students will be expected to be proficient in all techniques, patterns and theory covered to date.
- The examiners will not only be looking for knowledge and accuracy of techniques, but also improvement on previous tests (particularly in sparring).
- Above 7th Kup (Green Tag), students may be asked to perform any floowork techniques they have covered up to that point. These may include combinations that have not previously been practiced.
- DON'T PANIC!
Testing Procedure
- Your name will be called. When called up, run to the spot indicated and adopt a relaxed stance.
- When all students are lined up, the examiner will call out position numbers. When your position is called, come to attention, state your name and current grade, bow, then return to relaxed stance.
- When called to the desk for theory, run to a spot in front of the senior examiner, adopt attention stance, bow to the senior examiner, then remain in attention stance until told otherwise.
- When called up to break, run to a spot in front of the breaking holder, adopt attention stance, bow to the examiner, then remain in attention stance until told otherwise. When asked to perform a technique, address the holder in the appropriate stance, and return to that stance when the technique is complete. When you finish breaking and are dismissed, turn to the examiner, adopt attention stance, bow, then run back to your position.
Behaviour During Testing
- Promotion Tests are as much a test of attitude as technique.
- Ensure your uniform is clean and ironed.
- Show respect to examiners / senior students. When addressed, come to attention. Address all seniors as ‘Sir’ or ‘Ma'am’.
- Commands must be obeyed at once. If you did not hear, or do not understand, raise your right hand and ask for clarification.
- When told to move somewhere, respond ‘Sir!’or ‘Ma'am!’, then do so at a run (or at least a fast jog).
- Do not talk unless asked a question or otherwise given permission.
- When put in a stance, remain in it. Do not drop the arms, shuffle the feet, scratch yourself, or adjust clothing unless given permission first.
