There are two types of sparring you will encounter at tournaments:
In point stop sparring, the referee pauses the bout each time a scoring technique is landed, and restarts with the participants in the centre. Matches usually go up to ten points, with the winner being the first to reach ten during the bout or the one with the highest score when the time expires. Points are determined by the referee and shadow referee who follow the match from within the ring.
For continuous sparring the participants will fight each other until the time elapses or the referee has to stop the match (e.g. for an infringement of the rules). The winner is determined by four corner judges who count points scored during the match, and indicate the winner at the end.
