The fist is the primary weapon of Taekwon-Do. In order to be most effective, and to avoid injury, it must be formed correctly.
When you hit something (or somebody...) make sure that:
1) the wrist is straight
2) the fist is tight - no air spaces or light showing through gaps
3) the thumb is tucked out of the way
4) you hit with the correct part of the knuckles of the index and middle fingers for a forefist or backfist strike.
This is your right hand. If you want to use the left hand, just follow the instructions the other way around.
Roll the fingers tightly inwards until the tips are touching the finger belly.
Press the fingers into the palmar crease, starting with the little finger. Tuck them in tightly.
Fold the thumb so that it lies over the first two fingers, locking them in place. |
